Rally on Wednesday, Oct. 30th at Sacajawea
/Hello, Sacajawea community,
With great sadness, we share that Sacajawea is one of the four schools in SPS's closure and consolidation proposal.
So now we will put our 3-day plan into action.
Monday morning: At school drop-off, the advocacy team will pass out flyers detailing our sign-making party and rally. Flyers will also go home with students. We will have flyers available in home languages.
Tuesday after school: Sign-making and letter-writing party after school at Sacajawea Park (grassy field next to Sacajawea)
Wednesday at 7:30 am: We'll rally before school in front of the west-facing doors at the back of the school (but not on school grounds). Please plan to arrive at 7:15 am and park two blocks from the school so we don't disrupt student drop-off. Donuts and bagels will be served.
Our community-building rally will be kid-friendly, positive, and fun. We will have suggestions for signs, such as "We Love Sacajawea" or "Rebuild Sacajawea."
We will invite families, students, grandparents, other SPS school communities, engaged residents, local businesses, and EVERYONE to help us support ALL of our kids through these events.
For more information on school consolidations and closures: last week, the superintendent announced a plan to close four elementary schools, including Sacajawea Elementary School. SPS's proposal is for Sacajawea to merge into the new John Rogers Elementary building that will open in fall 2025. This plan is not final and will be voted on by the School Board in January 2025.
If you have any questions or thoughts, email us at advocacy@sacpta.org. We'd love to hear from you.
Together, we can make a difference! Thank you for being such an integral part of our community.
Warm regards,
